JOB TITLE:   Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

REPORTS TO:  Chief Operating Officer

Full time or Part-time, Exempt


Provide the 12-core function of Chemical Dependency Counselor

Intake Duties:

  • Perform phone and in-person intake responsibilities.
  • Screen potential client for warrants, criminal background and other factors that would prohibit admission.
  • Discuss Micah program with potential client to determine suitability.
  • Begin program orientation for new client once accepted.
  • Introduce client to all staff who will work with client upon arrival.

Manage client activities:

  • Work with each client to design goals and create an individual plan that addresses the addiction, educational, employment, life skills, housing, psychological and physical needs.
  • Document weekly meetings and progress made on weekly goals.
  • Monitor and record clients’ case management meetings in staff and client logs.
  • Complete termination information on all clients that have left the program.
  • Network with outside agencies in order to offer a broad range of services to the clients.
  • Provide support and refer clients to in house groups that train them in appropriate independent living skills.



  • Schedule and plan individual time with clients to provide regular support and counseling.
  • Address client’s problems and crises in a respectful way.
  • Role model positive social interaction by involving clients in decision-making.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred. Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor required.
  • Strong understanding of relapse prevention personal development and mental health issues.
  • Experience working in an urban multi-cultural environment.
  • Must have strong oral presentation skills and ease with speaking in front of diverse groups of people.
  • Knowledge of personal computer: electronic mail, Microsoft Access, and Excel spreadsheets in order to perform the duties of the job.
  • Must have organizational skills, detail-oriented, a troubleshooter and people skills in order to perform the duties of the job.


  • Authority to admit and discharge clients.
  • Performs all job responsibilities independently

  • . The job requires a 20-hour minimum workweek. Possible schedule will be first shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 12pm and 8:00 am to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday
